Disney’s Live-Action “Aladdin” to be Directed by Guy Ritchie

written by Jason Marcano October 10, 2016

Guy Ritchie, director of Snatch and most recently the soon to be released King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, is Disney’s pick for their live-action adaptation of Aladdin. The 1992 Oscar winning film featuring the late great Robin Williams, is the latest from the Disney Vault to receive a live-action makeover.

Disney has seen massive success with their Jungle Book adaptation and naturally want to keep the ball rolling. They have plans to release a live-action version of Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast is just around the corner. There is even a Mulan film on track for a 2018 release.

How the Sherlock Holmes  director will handle a property like Aladdin is anyone’s guess, but Guy Ritchie is a talented man, so I’m optimistic. There is no release date or any other concrete news regarding Aladdin, such as who will play the genie Robin Williams made unforgettable.

How about you geeks, are you excited about all these classic animated Disney films receiving live-action remakes? Or, do you wish they just leave well enough alone? Let us know in the comments below, and stick with DHTG for more on this as it develops.
