It was once a rumor, but now we have proof. “The Division,” a game about cleaning up New York after a massive epidemic wipes out most of the population, is the latest Ubisoft franchise to receive the green light for the silver screen. While no story information has been released, Ubisoft have revealed two major headliners.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain will not only be stars in the upcoming film, they will also be working behind the camera. Chastain with her production company Freckle Films, and Gyllenhall with Nine Stories will be chipping in on the development process of “The Division.”
Gyllenhall is known for his roles in Jarhead, Nightcrawler, and Donnie Darko. Chastian has been in such films as Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Martian. These are two A-list actors with the chops to bring “The Division” to cinemas.
“The Division” isn’t the only movie Ubisoft has in the pipeline. Other popular franchises are also in development according the the company. Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, and Rabbids are also in the early stages of production. Not to mention the Michael Fassbender vehicle Assassin’s Creed coming this December 21st.
“The Division” is full of many emotional stories. That is if you take the time to find all the audio recordings and listen to some of the survivors’ conversations. In the game players spend the majority of the time shooting rioters and managing inventory. What story is there is skipped over by many in lieu of the tight, strategic gun-play. It remains to be seen what Ubisoft has in mind for the movie’s plot.
Perhaps the most important question about the movie is: What color will Jake Gyllenhaal’s beanie be?
What do you geeks think about “The Division” becoming a movie? It’s starting to look like video games are the next logical step in big screen adaptations after comics.
