Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine is soon coming to a close. Its been announced that his final film as the clawed mutant will simply be titled, Logan. Much like the last Wolverine solo outing, The Wolverine, it will be once again be directed by James Mangold and be based off a very popular and beloved Wolverine storyline, this time being based on Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s Old Man Logan. The original miniseries arc, not the current ongoing comic by Marvel. Following comic books is sometimes confusing, isn’t it?
With the film in post-production, lots of details have been coming out lately, such as the confirmation of Mister Sinister being in the movie and that reportedly, X-23 will be in the film.
A new piece of information for Logan has recently been revealed via the Instagram account for the film and shows that Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) will be playing one of the villains, Donald Pierce.
Now for a little information on Donald Pierce himself. Pierce debuted in Uncanny X-Men #132 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s legendary run on the book. Pierce is a cyborg who started out with the Hellfire Club, long standing X-Men enemies who were the villains for First Class, and later formed the Reavers, a group of criminal cyborgs who once crucified Wolverine himself. He has superhuman strength and reflexes on the basis that he is a cyborg after all, is a genius, and can create several types of energy.
Holbrook will be joined by Richard E. Grant who was cast as an unnamed mad scientist, which of course means many on the Internet have speculated that he is playing Mister Sinister.
Whatever the case may be there, its clear by also viewing the Instagram account that Jackman’s swan song. A picture of a script page and a severed arm show that they are definitely sticking to an R-rating, which will make many fans pretty happy.
How excited are you by the casting? Do you think Holbrook is right to play Donald Pierce? Is Grant playing Sinister? Let us know in the comments below!
Logan will be released in theaters on March 3, 2017.
