Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the reasons I went from hating to loving The Fast and Furious franchise. Yes, one of the men responsible for making wrestling cool in the late ’90s. Granted I liked Fast and Furious before Dwayne Johnson showed up in Fast Five.
The most recent film, The Fate of the Furious obviously left itself up to a ninth installment, but it might be without Johnson himself. He opened up in an interview recently about problems with co-star Vin Diesel.
What I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.
He further added he’s not sure if he will be involved in the next sequel. He instead looks to focus attention to the proposed spin-off of his character of him and Jason Statham’s character.
There seems to be tension between the co-stars as Dwayne Johnson himself said he wished Diesel “all the best” and that there was no ill will between the two thanks to clarity before saying:
Actually, you can erase that last part about ‘no ill will.’ We’ll just keep it with the clarity.
Diesel isn’t the only one upset with the Hobbs spin-off as Tyrese has expressed displeasure over the project, too. This publically led to a feud between the two.
Regardless of how the co-stars feel, it looks like Universal will go through with the film. Here’s hoping we might see The Great One riding with the family again.
What do you make of this news? Do you want Johnson to remain in the franchise? What do you want from the spin-off film? Do you even want the spin-off? Let us know in the comments!
