The new game for Giant Sparrow, creators of PS4’s unique Unfinished Swan, is about the Finches. What Remains of Edith Finch is a surreal narrative experience in which you play as multiple members of the Finch family and explore their house in Washington State. What a house it is!
Players will first take control of the titular Edith in first person view as she journeys to the Finches’ unusual and mysterious home. As Edith Finch, you will travel to the various rooms of the house learning more about her family as you do. Each room is a unique window into a different family members life. The stories will span multiple time periods, from the 1940s to present day, and they’ll all end the same way: with that family members death.
What Remains of Edith Finch is being published by Annapurna Pictures‘ newest interactive division which is dedicated to publishing and producing new games. Giant Sparrow‘s latest offering seems like a perfect follow up to 2012’s Unfinished Swan.
In an interview with Polygon, Director Ian Dallas had this to say about the Finch family and their odd house:
“…In the full game you’ll find stories that span three generations of Finches. It’s a large, strange family and variety has definitely been one of our goals. We didn’t want it to feel like one story; we wanted it to feel like you’re exploring the history of this entire family….”
“…most start off with something familiar and then take a surreal turn, like an episode of The Twilight Zone.”
What Remains of Edith Finch will be featured at PAX South where we will be getting some hands on time to explore the dreamlike Finch Estate. Be sure to stick with DHTG as we’ll be bringing you a ton of information on this and many, many more games coming in 2017.
