Finally, finally, finally! In a move that was rumored to come sooner rather than later, The Elder Scrolls Online has ditched the subscription requirement of the game and is going “buy-to-play”. Gamers need only purchase the game once and then they can play to their heart’s content for free.

Because the game has tossed out the subscription model, the game will supplement its income with cosmetic and convenience microtransactions as well as optional downloadable content. Beyond that, there will be a special program called ESO Plus, a monthly membership that gives paying members additional content, in-game premium currency and access to all DLC packs. No price has been given as to what ESO Plus will run peeps a month. Players with a paid subscription when the game goes subscription free will automatically be enrolled in ESO Plus.

The other good news is that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited was announced for Xbox One, PS4 and PCs\Macs. It’s the same great game with all the content updates and upgrades so far but guys, a release date has been set for consoles! I’ve been waiting rather impatiently for this as my I’m a confirmed controller jockey but love the Elder Scrolls. I won’t even bother trying it on my work laptop and my home PC is used for my wife’s Sims addiction.

The Elder Scrolls: Tamriel Unlimited will hit PCs\Macs on March 17th and Xbox Ones and PS4s on June 9th. That March date will be when the subscription requirement drops off for PCs\Macs and it will be free to go on consoles when it releases in June.

What say you geeks? Glad to see another MMO going free\buy-to-play? Going to pick up Tamriel Unlimited? I know I am! Sound off in them comments!
