What was only thought of is now true. When Suicide Squad hits the home video market later this fall, there will be an extended cut of the film itself. The announcement came via video today and you can see it for yourself below!
The supervillain movie of this recent summer will be released digitally on November 15 and on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 13. The extended cut of Suicide Squad will be adding an extra 13 minutes to the movie that theatergoers didn’t get to see and thus bumps up the original runtime of 123 minutes to 136 minutes. The extended cut will be available on Ultra HD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack, and the Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Pack and on the Blu-Ray discs only. While the original theatrical cut will on the DVDs of the Combo Packs and get its own 2-disc Special Edition DVD release. The extended cut of Suicide Squad will be released by itself on Digital HD.
After the release of the film back in August, one of the more consistent criticisms against the movie was its pacing and editing. Suicide Squad writer and director David Ayer said himself after the release of the film that there was over 10 minutes of footage left on the cutting room floor.
Much was also made about Jared Leto’s Joker when the film came out as well with how heavy he was in the marketing of the film, yet barely appeared in the final product and didn’t have much an impact on the film’s narrative. Leto himself even said later after the release that he felt tricked into playing the iconic villain because of what was pitched to him originally. Maybe this extended cut could right some of the film’s wrongs.
No other special features have been announced for the release yet.
