Thanks to the magic of prequels, fan favorite characters of many franchises can be seen again on screen. Such as the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films for the Harry Potter series. Plenty of fans are looking forward to seeing younger versions of their favorite witches and wizards.
For the Fantastic Beasts sequel fans will see Jude Law step into the role of a younger Albus Dumbledore when he was a transfiguration professor at Hogwarts.
Law becomes the third actor to ever portray Harry Potter’s mentor on screen after Richard Harris and Michael Gambon from the previous films. Law apparently had some stiff competition for the role going against the likes of Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, and Richard Harris’ own son, Jared Harris.
Director David Yates said of the casting that, “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
J.K. Rowling will write the screenplay as she did the last time around and all that’s known of the film’s plot is that it will be set at a dark time for the wizarding world that will force Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his group of friend to choose what side they are on.
