The HD remaster will be called Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
In 2006 Square Enix released one of the more divisive core Final Fantasy games on the PS2, Final Fantasy XII. It was a grand adventure set in Ivalice, the same world as Final Fantasy Tactics. FFXII had a unique battle system that played more akin to an MMORPG as opposed to the normal turned based affairs of Final Fantasy’s past, and a robust job system that received a complete overhaul when it was re-released in Japan as Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System.
Slated for a release in 2017 Famitsu is reporting a slew of changes such as:
- Updated character models and textures
- Both the original and a re-recorded soundtrack
- The Japanese and English voice overs
- Faster load times
- An auto-save feature
These changes, along with the additions that were made to the original when it was re-released in Japan, seem to make it well worth the revisit.
Square Enix has been on a roll lately. Final Fantasy XV looks promising, the remake to FFVII is a long time coming, I Am Setsuna looks to be JRPG nirvana, and now this remaster. They really seem to be listening to what fans want and delivering in spades.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age has so far only be announced for the PS4, and one can probably expect it to stay that way as no info has been released the contrary. But we will keep you geeks updated if there are any changes in that plan.
I’ll leave you now with a couple more amazing shots of the new HD remaster
