Fans eagerly waiting for the arrival of the follow-up to DC Comics and NetherRealm Studios collaboration Injustice: Gods Among Us got an exciting update this week. Warner Bros. and DC announced that the first DLC pack for Injustice 2 will include Starfire, Red Hood, and Mortal Kombat‘s Sub-Zero. Three worthy inclusions to an already stellar roster. Alongside the announcement, WB released this trailer for the characters:
Starfire first appeared as a part of the Teen Titans in 1980 and became one of the team’s most consistent members. She gained popularity outside of comics in the Cartoon Network TV show of the same name in 2003. She has a loyal fanbase largely due to her unique appearance and long term relationship with Nightwing.
Red Hood is Jason Todd. As the second Robin Jason was so hated by fans that they happily voted in mass to have him violently killed by the Joker. After his inevitable revival, Jason became the Red Hood. A gun toting, killer vigilante out for vengeance. His new persona gained some fans and he’s no longer one of the most hated characters in the DCU. All it took was a sweet helmet, a few guns, and just the bloodiest of deaths.
Sub-Zero is, of course, the most recognizable character in NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat series. His inclusion makes sense. His lifelong rival Scorpion was DLC for the first Injustice so it seems only fair Sub-Zero would get a spot this time around. Much like Scorpion, Sub-Zero got a DC style makeover for this appearance.
This isn’t the first time Sub-Zero went toe to toe with DC’s best. NetherRealm and DC’s first collaboration was Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which saw characters from the two brands fight it out. Though not as good or successful as its most comparable competition Marvel vs. Capcom, it did plant the seeds for the Injustice series.
