It doesn’t take a nerd to recognize the name Lara Croft. This character has been the subject of numerous amazing video games, as well as one of the most financially successful video game to movie adaptations.
While she was insanely popular in the nerd crowd for years, it was really the movie role in 2001 played by Angelina Jolie that introduced the characters to all crowds.
Sixteen years later, we are definitely due for another bad-ass movie featuring one of the more iconic heroines in video game history.
Luckily, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander stepped up to the challenge! By the looks of these recently released pictures, it is obvious that she has been working insanely hard to live up to the role.
Check out these awesome set pictures from a set in South Africa:
Over the years, Lara Croft’s outfits have become more practical and less sexual. Starting with a form fitting blue tank (that showed off her fantastic triangle boobs) in 1996, to Angelina’s unforgettable huge knockers in 2001 (due to extra padding).
It seems as if, in the latest game and in the new movie, the emphasis is less on the boobage and more on the ass kicking! Which is definitely something that I can get behind.
Alicia Vikander is shown rocking an outfit that is very similar to what the character is wearing in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Blueish grayish tank top, arm bandage, ponytail and all!
If this is going to be anything like the game, we can expect Lara to go through hell and back to accomplish her goals. Alicia acting all this out will definitely be a sink or swim moment for her acting career, though based on her previous work and dedication to this role, I have no doubt this will be an edge-of-the-seat movie.
According to Alicia, this movie will be an origin story for Lara—most likely the story of how young Lara got her start into archaeology by following the path of her father.
“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013, that it is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way…so I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs.” – Alicia Vikander
She then went on to explain how she had played the games as a child, and while she loved seeing a female protagonist, she would get scared while playing and would take breaks. Ironic, considering now she is living the Tomb Raider lifestyle with these awesome stunts!
Do you think Alicia will live up to the challenge and bring justice to the name? How many movies do you think she’ll do in this role? Give your opinions in the comments!
