Epic has announced the future of gaming! That’s right, Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to mobile devices starting on iOS devices on an invite event Monday, March 12! Epic announced in a press release:
“Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates. We believe this is the future of games. The same game on all platforms. Console quality graphics and action. Play when you want, where you want.”
I feel that saying “We believe the future of games” rests within mobile sounds oddly familiar. Hm, I think some companies who aren’t in business anymore used to say that. Jokes aside, Epic has secured its absolute foothold in the Battle Royale space with Fortnite and is now looking to expand its reach with its behemoth to the mobile market. They continued in their statement:
“In partnership with our friends at Sony, Fortnite Battle Royale will support Cross Play and Cross Progression between PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android. This means players across devices can squad up with friends and play together.”
Not only have games demonstrated that touch controls aren’t the greatest for action shooters, but Fortnite Battle Royale has the added base-building mechanic. I’m not just convinced this will translate well to a 5″ screen with touch controls. Epic’s Fortnite is a more casual entry in the Battle Royale universe as opposed to the likes of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but that doesn’t mean it can translate to even more casual-ness. It’s a gamble for sure, but Epic obviously can take a beating, seeing as Fortnite Battle Royale has taken the lead for most concurrent players in the genre.
If you want to be part of the future of gaming, head on over to Fortnite’s website and sign up to be invited for the event.
