FOX’s hit TV Show is bringing The Joker to Gotham:

“We’ve said you’re going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America – nobody wants to wait. So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it, a little tap on the door” – Heller

Actual Joker Easter Egg in Gotham trailer

With that quote from Gotham executive producer Bruno Heller folks, we have our official confirmation that the Joker origin story will indeed begin to play out on the FOX hit TV show Gotham! For newcomers to the show this is pretty cool news, for fans already of the show this is quite a relief! Show runners have been hinting from the very start of the show how they would be hinting at a potential Joker character in every episode. Heller has also said….

“We will be playing with… Not just with Joker. Half the fun with all of these characters is who is going to turn into what and when? Certainly the Joker is a good example. In the pilot, you see there’s a comedian there. People immediately leap… And that’s really letting the audience do our work for us. Because I haven’t said anything about that guy and people go there!”

“Yeah, we’ll play with that down the line. Not over the course of one season, no, because people will still get tired of that. ‘Is that the Joker? Is that the Joker?’ No. In a subtle way, we’ll be doing that and hopefully we’ll fool them in the end.”

As fans of the show have seen, the emphasis on the Dark Knight’s rouge gallery of villains has been wonderfully executed. Each and every week has been a complete mystery and full of twist and turns just as promised by show runners. With the intro of the very young Catwoman and the star of the show Penguin, we fans cannot wait for the already confirmed baddies to come.

The Riddler has been sitting in the backdrop this whole time with his puzzling ways portrayed by Gotham PD’s resident crime lab expert Edward Nygma! Poison Ivy will also be one of the next main villains to appear on Gotham.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ star Colm Feore will play Gotham’s version of DC’s Dollmaker, Black Mask is making his rounds, “Scarecrow” Gerald (and his son Jonathan) Crane have also been slated to scare the hell out of the people of Gotham. The ominous Red Hood gang (which Red Hood himself has served as Joker’s origins in the comics). Also hints of Mr. freeze are making their rounds and a more solid lead has Dick Grayson’s parents making a stop in Gotham.

Tho one thing to keep in mind is how show-runners have also been playing with the sacred rouge gallery comic book lore. ‘Poison Ivy’ herself will appear on the show with an all new name, which Heller has already spoken as to why the need for the change of name

Regarding Ivy, Heller had said:

“It’s really about being able to tell the secret histories of these stories. If you just re-tell stories exactly as they’ve been told before, whilst you’re being true to the created mythology, you’re not really adding anything to it. So you have to find ways of finding more. And in this case, we’ve set up a situation in which Ivy Pepper, her mom is sick, her dad is dead… She’s going to go to the orphanage. And she’s a nice young girl; relatively undamaged. And she will find people to adopt her. And then we will start on the Poison Ivy story that people are familiar with.”

Gotham is doing it right as far as keeping comic fans happy with all the ties into the comic book world. Also FOX’s Gotham is killing it (pun so intended) with new Batman fans as well with its fresh new take and very stylistic storytelling. Keep watching for more Batman/Gotham/Gordon greatness as this show has firmly sunk its claws into the general public’s viewing pleasure.
