Han Solo Movie Directors Exit over ‘Creative Differences’

Phil Lord and Chris Miller

I’ve got a bad feeling about this. The last few weeks have been quiet with regards to news of the second Star Wars spin-off. That just changed as The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have announced they are stepping down as directors of the as yet untitled Han Solo origin movie over creative differences. They were more than honest in their statement letting the fans know what went down.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

While it’s refreshing to be given the full picture it’s also upsetting to see such an exciting project hit a major road block like this. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was equally as hasty to release a statement of their own.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.”
So the hunt for a new director begins. As is the case with situations such as these you can bet Disney already have a shortlist to go through and as fans we can now speculate for days over who might be taking over. Production is four months in so every day without a director will be costly for all parties involved. Whether or not the movie is put into hibernation remains to be seen. Expect Disney and Lucasfilm to announce the new director/directors very soon.
