Ready for more Joker and Harley insanity?

Dust off your green alligator skin jacket and smudgeable red lipstick because this spin-off is not a drill. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on 8/24 that Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, currently directing and rocking the hell out of the hit NBC show This Is Us, are jumping headlong in the DC cinematic universe. Harley Quinn Vs the Joker (possibly a working title) is a live action spin-off centralized on the Gotham villainous couple. The Crazy Stupid Love directors are in final negotiations to take the reins of the new movie.

Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are to return as the tumultuous duo from 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Reports say the new movie will start in studio after the sequel to Suicide Squad has completed. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to take 47 years to complete. Sources say both movies are moving Flash fast to stay within the realm of the actors’ holding agreements. Good news for all of us impatient nerds.

Described as a “criminal love story” (because what else could it be), it spotlights the famous baneful, homicidal clown acts that stand undeniably as pylons in the Batman universe. One insider calls it:

“An insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine.”

Now, this isn’t to be confused with The Joker solo movie announced earlier this week written by Todd Phillips (The Hangover) which will stand apart from the DCEU, making it non-cannon. This will be an origin story, produced by Martin Scorsese, which has some nerds and hardcore fans raging and ranting… and well, generally just pissed.

Harley Quinn Vs the Joker may be more than the toxic obsession fueled story we’ve come to know. Instead, it may pit the couple against each other in an ultimate face-off. Could it be the breakaway from the Joker that Harley needs? Could Harley have flipped the switch from villain back to savior after being a hero in Suicide Squad? Maybe it’s a ramp up to Harley finally being with Poison Ivy in Gotham City Sirens (in which Robbie has confirmed a return to her Harley Quinn roll)!

Do you think a spin-off for the paramours is a good idea? Will it be disastrous or wonderful? Maybe fall somewhere in the middle like Suicide Squad did? Tell us in the comments!
