Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is coming to the London stage very soon, so Pottermore blessed us with some first look photos! The story takes place 19 years after Deathly Hallows and focuses on an adult Harry Potter and Ginny Potter (formerly Weasley), and their youngest child, Albus Severus Potter. Harry now works for the Ministry of Magic, Harry and Ginny have gotten married and they have three children. Jamie Parker is playing Harry, Poppy Miller is playing Ginny, and Sam Clemmett is playing Albus.

Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildThe Pottermore website had some interesting feedback from J.K. Rowling, the famous author of the Harry Potter books. When asked about Jamie Parker’s portrayal of Harry, she replied with;

“He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right.”

Parker was asked about the costume choices and said “With all of the character’s costumes we want them to be instantly familiar when people see them, so that people feel like the story’s safe in our hands, and we’re taking that responsibility seriously.”

He then gave some insight on what it was like to wear those famous glasses and that scar on his head. “They’re just iconic. These are stories that people have lived with for their whole lives, they’ve grown up with and now they’re adults re-joining the tale, picking it up where they left off and I’m one of them. In a sense you don’t need more than the scar and the glasses, you kind of go, “there it is” and I don’t really know how to put it into words, it’s just immeasurably exciting and I can’t wait to show it to people.”

Below are the first look images of Harry, Ginny and Albus.

The website also revealed that throughout the week they will be releasing more images of “wizarding characters and the actors behind the roles”. It looks like the casting choices and costumes are spot on so far. Fans of the Harry Potter books can look at these characters and instantly identify with them and realize who they are. The play should be wildly successful and I wish I could fly to London to see it myself!
