Chewbacca Mom, AKA Candace Payne, has let all of her fame go to her head. She was rewarded a Chewbacca Mom figurine, which is basically her head on a Chewbacca body with a removable mask. While this is all fine and dandy, she was apparently at Dallas Comic Con charging $20 for autographs!
This makes me wonder, how on earth did Payne get so famous? Many of us have uploaded happy silly videos, as well as shown off whenever we get something we really want. So why did Payne become famous over us? The news all report she was famous because of her Facebook Live feed, which promoted Kohl’s, Star Wars, Hasbro, and Facebook. However, is there more to this than we know?
I don’t believe Payne’s fame will last much longer. Many were upset just because she had gained scholarships along with her family. I believe fame has gone to Payne’s head at this point. What threw it overboard is that she gained an action figure.
How many people who have promoted Nintendo received an action figure with their face instead of Link’s? How many famous YouTubers (like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, or TobyGames) received fame of this magnitude?
We know that some actors do charge for their autographs, however, most of them give them out for free. They are happy to see fans. Payne is charging way too much, she may be happy to see her fans, but maybe she’s more happy to see the cash. Even when Markiplier says in his videos that he is going to a Con he’s just happy to see fans of his work. Can Payne say the same?
The irony of this whole situation is that Payne was doing her $20 autographs beside Jack Gleeson (Joffery from Game of Thrones). How many fans would have walked over to Joffery over Chewbacca Mom? Let us know in the comments.
