In order to promote the 80th anniversary of Hasbro’s Monopoly, the company has decided to replace the paper bills found in the game with real money (euros). Unfortunately, they’ve only hidden the cash in 80 of the game’s boxes so only a good handful of people will be able to find the hidden stash.
One of the sets has every single paper bill replaced with a real euro which comes to a total of 20,580 euros (around $23,268). Ten more of the game sets will have five 20-euro bills, two 50-euro bills, and one 100-euro bill totaling to 300 euros (about $370). The rest of the 69 game sets will have 10-euro bills along with five 20-euro bills at 150-euros total (around $170).
According to The Guardian, Florence Gaillard, Monopoly’s brand manager, commented on the anniversary promotion,
“When we asked our French customers, they told us they wanted to find real money in their Monopoly boxes.”
Although it’s not secret anymore, it has been reported that the games containing the money were released on Monday. According to Hasbro, there aren’t any differences between the boxes so customers shouldn’t be able to tell, however there is a VERY SMALL difference in thickness because of the size of the euros. The games will hide among a variety of 30,000 Monopoly games (Monopoly, Monopoly Junior, electronic, and vintage versions).
What do you think geeks? Do you think you’ll head over to France and try to snag the money? That would be quite the trip, but if you get the $23k worth of euros, you could buy as many Monopoly games that you like! Let us know what you think in the comments below!
