Hayley Atwell Has No More Interest in the Role of Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi’s last season of Doctor Who is in full swing and every fan is still waiting on the hopes that they’ll soon know who is the next person to fly the TARDIS throughout time and space. Many are hoping that a woman will finally take on the lead role of the longest running sci-fi series ever and that could still happen, but one choice plenty of fans would love to have is out of the running.

Previously saying back in 2015 during a Twitter Q&A that she would love to play The Doctor, Hayley Atwell has recently revealed that she no longer feels interested in the role.

Recently at a panel during London’s Heroes and Villains Fanfest, Atwell stated, “I don’t want to play it. No. It’s just not my thing, but I really respect it.” But she did throw her pick for who should play The Doctor should he regenerate into a woman. “I’m a big fan of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, though. She plays the lead in Fleabag. There were talks of her being the next Doctor, and she’s so funny and eccentric and unique; she’d be great. I can’t really see anyone other than her playing it.”

Bridge is the creator and star behind acclaimed BBC Three sitcom, Fleabag and more audiences will get to know her soon thanks to being in the cast of the upcoming Han Solo film in the Star Wars series.

People have been waiting for something other than a white male for The Doctor and it has gained momentum over the past couple of years with fans online pushing for their personal choices as who they want to see in the role. Will we get it? We’re just gonna have to wait and see.
