Winter has finally come in Game of Thrones, but it will soon end. We know the time for the massive HBO hit is soon coming to a close with seasons seven and eight, but how many more episodes we have exactly aren’t so certain any more.
Season seven, which has recently wrapped up filming, will consist of seven episodes and it was originally said that the eighth and final one would be only six, but that might not be the case anymore. HBO Programming President Casey Bloys said about the remaining episodes of the Emmy Award-winning series, “The only thing we’re working out is how many episodes they want to do. They’re still figuring it out because I think they’re trying to get a shape of the season. They always do what they think [will yield] the best version of the show. It’s all about how many they’re comfortable [with]. But I’ll always take more.”
While season seven is a guaranteed thing, this is why the eight season hasn’t been made official and once they can agree on how many episodes the show will go out on, the end will surely be in sight, but Bloys did confirm that the final season will be coming. “If you’re afraid we’re not going to do an eighth season, I assure you we’re going to.”
With Game of Thrones pretty much reaching ahead of the A Song of Fire and Ice books its based on, the end for the so did seem like an inevitability, but show co-creator David Benioff admitted that he and D.B. Weiss they’ve known the ending for the series for some time and that they are heading right towards it. Better to bow out before out on top before falling to the bottom.
