Ryan Collins , a 36 year-old-male from Lancaster, PA has pled guilty to the hacking and theft of tons (hundreds) of nude photos that leaked all over the Internet of some of the popular celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Kate Upton, Rihanna and so many more.

Collins signed a please agreement with US Attorney in Los Angeles on Tuesday of this week. Collins gave up the goods that he used a phishing scheme to get the usernames and passwords to upwards of 50 iCloud accounts and 72 Gmail accounts, most of them belonging to celebrities.

There has not been any evidence of Collins sharing or uploading the photos he stole from these accounts, but it does seem odd that the time frame fits with the all the Fappening timeline going on in August  of 2014. Collins has not yet been sentenced.

FBI Assistant Director of the LA Field Office issued this:

“By illegally accessing intimate details of his victims’ personal lives, Mr. Collins violated their privacy and left many to contend with lasting emotional distress, embarrassment and feelings of insecurity…

…We continue to see both celebrities and victims from all walks of life suffer the consequences of this crime and strongly encourage users of Internet-connected devices to strengthen passwords and to be skeptical when replying to emails asking for personal information.”

Folks, even if you are not Jennifer Lawrence, you have to be careful out there with these phishing scams. Make sure your emails are legit or reach out to the company directly and not through the email or correspondence that you received that has you worried.
