IDW and Glénant Team Up for Original Graphic Novel Imprint

written by Jordan Cobb July 19, 2017

IDW Publishing has now teamed up with French publisher Glénant for a most ambitious project by creating the brand new imprint line, Original Graphic Novel.

The goal of Original Graphic Novel is for brand new, original comic book properties to be created in both U.S. and French markets. American and Franco-Belgian creators will come together and work on all-new stories that will span across various genres and “whatever may inspire the authors”. The books will be published and sold across both markets.

The joint venture is a continuation of the working relationship both publishers already have since IDW republishes Glénant books with Disney characters here in the states, while Glénant translates IDW’s work from here and sell it overseas. Now Glénant also does that for Oni Press, Image Comics, and various publishers, so its not know exactly why IDW was chosen.

Others have attempted something similar to this before, but they were much more focused on reprinting and reformatting European creations for audiences over in America. Both companies are among the top five largest publishers in their respective markets, so yeah this ain’t something to go into lightly.

Original Graphic Novel will launch sometime next year and several launch titles have already announced from fantasy book The Highest House by Mike Carey and Peter Gross and the Los Angeles crime thriller from Brian Buccellato and Alexis Sentence, Lowlifes.
