Iwan Rheon Cast in Inhumans TV Show As Royal Family Member

written by Jordan Cobb February 21, 2017

A while ago a list of character descriptions for a casting call came out it looked mighty similar to the characters consisting of the Inhuman Royal Family, meaning that ABC was starting to cast its actors for the upcoming Marvel Comics TV show based on the race of super-humans and the first member has been found.

Described as “Marty” previous, Game of Thrones alum Iwan Rheon has been cast as Maximus the Mad, the younger supervillain brother to king of the Inhumans, Black Bolt. Maximus is a genius that has a variety of mental powers, but is mentally unstable and as you can guess, those affect the use of his powers. For the show here Maximus is described as “a clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, the King – although he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself.”

Much like many of the Inhuman characters, they made their first appearance during Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s run on Fantastic Four back in the 1960s and for Maximus he came along in 1966’s Fantastic Four #47.

Rheon’s casting is pretty good I’d say, we already know he can play a manipulative and cunning villain thanks to playing Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones and thus making us all think, “Hey maybe King Joffrey wasn’t that bad a dude.” But seriously, this looks to be a really good call on the part of the show.

Executive producer Jeph Loeb is certainly seeing that too as he spoke about the casting saying, “Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish, and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”

Showrunner Scott Buck, yes the very same man who is heading up the upcoming Iron Fist, said that, “Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”

Well we should be hearing more about the rest of the cast very soon I think. In the meantime if you want to know a little more of the Inhumans, you can find out for yourself right here!

What do you think of the casting? Are you a fan or do you think they should have gone with someone else? If so, who? Let us know in the comments below!

Inhumans will premiere on ABC this fall on September 26 after the pilot runs in IMAX theaters for two weeks starting September 1.
