Japanese Startup Vaqso Wants to Enhance Your Virtual Reality Experience

written by Alex Lopez January 31, 2017

Virtual reality brought a new way to experience life. From video games to movies (even adult movies), VR has changed the entertainment landscape. Now a Japanese startup called Vaqso wants to change the way you experience VR.

Vaqso VR is a small device that magnetically attaches to a head mounted device. The device can then emit smells based on your VR experience. At this time, three odor cartridges can be loaded into the device. The finished product is said to be able to load 5 to 10 cartridges at a time, further enhancing your VR time. A small fan inside the device will strengthen or weaken the smells, depending on how close or far away you are from an object in VR.

Vaqso is planning on opening up a developer’s site to get feedback about the product. Vaqso will then use that feedback to improve their device before shipping a finished product. While there are other VR smell devices out there, Vaqso has an advantage. The Vaqso VR can emit multiple odors, giving the user a more realistic experience. The device can also attach to more headsets. With the magnetic ability, it can attach to any HMD on the market, such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Vaqso is looking to sell to consumers later this year.

What do you think, geeks? Would you want to enhance your VR experience with smell? Sound off in the comments.
