JK Simmons Gets Jacked For Justice League

JK Simmons - Commissioner Gordon - Justice League

Maybe JK Simmons thought he was cast as “Gym” Gordon instead.

The former J. Jonah Jameson and future Commissioner Gordon made a shocking appearance on Instagram recently, courtesy of noted celebrity personal trainer Aaron Williamson.

Every time we train together I forget he's 61 years old. So much respect for this guy. #JKSimmons #OldManCranking

As you can see, Simmons has been hard at work putting any and all of us to shame while he gets in shape for his role as the police commissioner of Gotham City.

The 61-year-old veteran actor, known for his roles in the Spider-Man seriesJunoBurn After Reading, and the Farmer’s Insurance commercials, was announced for the role back in March to widespread acclaim. With his excellent portrayal of Jameson as well as his dedication to voicework in both the DC and Marvel universe (check out the man’s IMDb page — it’s insane), he has become a favorite among comic book fans.

JK Simmons - Jim Gordon - Justice League

This stunning transformation brings a few questions to mind about his place in the upcoming film version of Justice League. For instance, just how physical is this role going to be? Simmons is showcasing a superhero physique to put it mildly, and Jim Gordon has never really been known for being such a statuesque individual. Is this Gordon going to throw down at some point in the film? We’ll have to wait until November of next year to find out.

Directed by Zack Snyder (for now) and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and JK Simmons, Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.

Full disclosure: I thought the picture was a fake the first time I saw it. Now that it’s been verified, I have to say: I’m more than a little terrified of JK Simmons. And not just because I’ve seen Oz. Or Whiplash.
