Let’s just face it, when it comes to creating a connected cinematic universe, DC Comics is a bit of a mess. As evidenced by them creating a standalone film outside the DCEU about the Joker, and now that film has maybe found its Clown Prince of Crime!
The Joker is appearing an upcoming standalone origin film, outside the DCEU movies produced by Martin Scorsese and directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, which now could star Joaquin Phoenix as the infamous villain as the star is in talks with Warner Bros. about the project. This again prompts one to take a step back and look at everything in front of them.
While Phoenix might take on the role here, current DC film Joker, Jared Leto won’t lose his role as the character given how separate the films and timelines will be, including the impending Suicide Squad sequel and even the Joker and Harley Quinn film as well. Which hopefully will be explained soon. Hopefully.
It was previously rumored that frequent Scorsese collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio would play the character, but this is could not the case. Sorry to all you Leo fans. You have my condolences.
This isn’t the only time Phoenix was almost in the DC Universe as he was offered the role of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before Jesse Eisenberg took the role.
Should the Academy Award-nominated actor play the character, he could be a pretty good fit given his personality and well let’s say certain quirks, but when it comes to people playing Joker, it’s a very selective field for fans of the Ace of Knaves. But hey, different strokes, am I right?
What say you of the rumor? You want him or is there someone else you’d prefer to play the character? Let us know in the comments!
