Justice League has finally come and it’s not doing as well at the box office as Warner Bros. and DC Comics had planned. All the groundwork had been laid out, but audiences didn’t seem to be too impressed given the money being brought in. So time to overhaul everything I guess!
Variety is reporting that a shake-up could very well be in the works for the slate of films DC Comics hopes to produce. One such thing that would bring about the shake-up is the fact that the man currently heading up things is soon leaving. Several other sources have reported that Jon Berg will be exiting soon and the search for his replacement is underway.
Warner Bros. Picture Group President Toby Emmerich released a statement to Variety.
This is something that Jon approached me about six months ago, and he expressed his goal was to ultimately be a producer at the studio. I first met Jon when, as a producer, he brought ‘Elf’ to New Line, which remains one of the best and most evergreen titles in the library. We’re thrilled that Jon is partnering with Roy and anticipate their company being a valuable source of movies for Warner Bros. and New Line.
Expected to happen by January, this would be yet another bump in the road for DC Comics in establishing a connected cinematic universe of theirs. Only recently has their foundation been firmly set in place and looked to be holding up. Right now the odds-on favorite to replace Berg is DC writer, president, and CCO, and co-chairman of their film division Geoff Johns, but time will tell on that.
DC Comics has had trouble getting their own cinematic universe going by feeling rushed and hurried in a response to what Marvel had established, but maybe this could be their moment to truly take a better look at things and work it out. We can only hope.
