Kingdom Hearts III has been a long time coming. Numerous side stories and pseudo-sequels have served to merely scratch fans’ itch for a new entry. Once Tetsuya Nomura handed off directing responsibilities of Final Fantasy XV over to Hajime Tabata, progress on Kingdom Hearts III began to pick up. Over the course of the last few days, Square Enix has been releasing info on Kingdom Hearts III and the games leading up to it.
Kingdom Hearts III: The Prequels
One of the first announcement Square Enix made regarding their Disney infused ARPG series was that the PlayStation 4 would be seeing a re-release of ReMIX-ed editions from the PS3. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX for the PS4 will contain all the Kingdom Hearts games on one disc. Those games are:
- Kingdom Hearts FINAL MIX
- Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (HD remastered cinematics)
- Kingdom Hearts II FINAL MIX
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX
- Kingdom Hearts Re:coded
If you want to play all these games again, you’ll be able to pick up the collection on March 28, 2017.
After this news, Square Enix gave us another look at Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue. This is the story starring Aqua that will segue into KHIII.
I’m loving the remix of “Simple and Clean,” and Mickey is a beast!
Kingdom Hearts III
Square Enix has also graced eager fans with a small glimpse of some new content in Kingdom Hearts III. If you’ve played any of the games in the past then you’ll be familiar with the Drive mechanic. The latest screens from KHIII show off two of these forms.
First we have what Square Enix has dubbed the “Guard form.”
While also providing us with a look at Hercules’ world, Olympus, we can also see Sora’s Keyblade has transformed into a shield. No doubt this Drive form will be the more defensive of the bunch.
Next we have an image that Square Enix purposefully altered in order to avoid spoilers.
As you can see, the Keyblade in the above image is obscured because it is from a portion of the game Square Enix doesn’t wish to be revealed yet. Sora’s grip on the weapon is indicative of someone wielding something far heavier than a Keyblade.
The two new images come Via Kindom Hearts official twitter page. In the tweet, Square Enix says they will stay quiet about KHIII until after the launch of KH2.8.
