Said foe is Willis Stryker AKA Diamondback, seen here fighting our titular hero played by Mike Coulter. Boardwalk Empire‘s Erik LaRay Harvey is taking on the role of the Marvel villain who debuted all the way back in Luke Cage: Hero for Hire #1 in 1972.

While there have been numerous people who held the name Diamondback in Marvel, most well-known being Rachel Leighton, Stryker is the very first one and a former childhood friend of Luke’s. Stryker is the one who framed Luke with the drug charge that sent him to jail where he got his unbreakable skin and super strength via an experiment during his time and you can pretty much fill in the blanks from there. Stryker himself is a master of knives that utilizes gimmicked knives into his arsenal, such as exploding and sonic wave knives.

Diamondback isn’t alone on the bad side for the upcoming show. He’ll be going up against Luke with Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali), Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard), Shades (Theo Rossi), and Turk (Rob Morgan), coming on over from Daredevil.

You really can’t do the origins of Luke Cage without Stryker, so are you happy with the casting or should there be a different actor? How excited are you to see him in the show? Let us know in the comments below!

The entire first season of Luke Cage debuts on Netflix worldwide, September 30.
