The Legend of Korra, the amazing animated series and sequel to the equally amazing and beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender, will at long last return in graphic novel form beginning next year.
The Nickelodeon show concluded in December 2014 after four seasons, and fans have been clamoring for more ever since. Dark Horse Comics had promised a follow-up at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, but the project fell into a virtual radio silence over the following year.
Now, the first in a three-part graphic novel series has been officially announced for June 2017. The first book, titled Turf Wars, will continue the story just after the series ended. (Caution: Thar be spoilers ahead! But seriously, if you haven’t watched ATLA or TLOK yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?! WATCH IT ALL NOW ON AMAZON PRIME!)
As viewers will recall, the show ended with longtime pals Korra and Asami embarking hand in hand into the Spirit World, having recognized their feelings for one another and heading off for a new adventure. While the romance between the two young women could only be hinted at on a children’s programming network, the show’s creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko confirmed the relationship to fans online shortly after. The new comic series aims to follow the pair (or “Korrasami” as fans have long shipped across the internet) as they return from the spirit realm, only to find Republic City facing new threats, including a scheming amusement park developer, returning triad gangs and more.
Really though, guys. How many times can this poor city keep getting destroyed? Man, and I thought Metropolis had it bad…
Here’s to a long run of ongoing Korra comics just like the continuing Avatar stories! I want it all. I don’t care if Republic City needs to keep blowing up. It’s the Charlie-Brown-missing-the-football of this world. Just accept it and let it happen, so long as we keep getting awesome stories along with it!
As we’ve mentioned before here on DHTG, you just can’t stop the legend…
