“Have you heard the news? Everyone’s talkin’ Life is good ’cause everything awesome”
The Lego Movie came out 4 years ago and since then we have yet to see a direct sequel. After a couple of pretty successful spin-off movies, the sequel is finally coming and we have the title: The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Set to come out February 8th, 2019, not much is known yet about this sequel. We do know the original master builder Emmet voiced by Chris Pratt will be returning, as well as the rest of the main cast. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who recently were fired from Solo, only to be left with executive producer credits, will also be returning, but again as producers only. Trolls director Mike Mitchell will be helming the director’s chair on the film too.
“Everything is awesome, everything is cool when your part of a team”
Where we left off in The Lego Movie, Emmit defeated Lord Business and began to date Wyldstyle. In the real world, Finn and his father unglue the lego sets and Finn’s younger sister comes to play, with her Duplo blocks. Back in the Lego world these Duplo blocks come in as aliens and begin to wreak havoc. So, that was 4 years ago, and it has been announced that this film will take place 4 years later. So, we’ll see a significant time jump.
“Everything is awesome, when you’re living out a dream”
During the Santa Barbara Film Festival in 2015 at a Q&A panel, Lord and Miller gave away a few details on the current script at the time. They said the movie will focus on Emmit and his sister as they travel through a “weird, dystopian version of Bricksburg.”. However, since that announcement the script has passed many hands and been rewritten several times. The latest word is that the movie will focus on gender issues. The newest confirmed addition to The Lego Movie 2 is Tiffany Haddish. Her character has yet to be determined but we know her role will be significant. Considering the new focus, my assumption is that her character with deal with those issues.
