As the creator of what has been one of the most successful Broadway productions in history with Hamilton (I think I got a good shot at back row tickets in about two years), creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has of course been a busy man. He’s racked up all the awards possible, went to the White House, recently wrote songs for the upcoming Moana, and is about to be involved with the new Mary Poppins and Little Mermaid films at Disney.
So you gotta be wondering what else would Miranda want to do? Well he wants to join in the fun of Marvel Comics on the big screen, but not by saving the day.
Miranda expressed great interest while recently out for press on Moana to play Cletus Kassady AKA Carnage. That’s right, Carnage. Co-host of Meet the Movie Press, Simon Thompson spoke to Miranda about working with Disney and its relationship to Marvel came and the composer revealed he is a huge Marvel fan and said he’d love to play Carnage specifically.
Thompson added, “He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in [the Marvel Cinematic Universe] as a character, he wants to be Carnage. Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage. That is a goal of his.”
For what a nice and up-beat man Miranda appears to be, this will come as a surprise, but it is often said those playing villains are the nicest people imaginable so this could really work out for him. From one of our founding fathers to a serial killer infected with an alien parasite. What a crazy world.
While Miranda might be a great pick for Carnage, we’ll have to wait and see if he still has a shot at the role since fans have speculated that Michael Mando (Vaas from FarCry 3) will be playing the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which might be possible since his role is still very much a secret right now.
