In an announcement that’s sure to give you….goosebumps acclaimed writer and shaper of childhoods, R.L. Stine has let it slip in a Reddit AMA Session that he’s currently working on a series for Marvel Comics. Stine isn’t allowed to talk about any of the details, but speculation is already running wild. I’d personally love to see his take on Doctor Strange.
“I’m writing a series of comic books for Marvel– my first comics ever. But I’m not allowed to talk about them yet.” Stine replied when asked about whether or not he’d ever thought about venturing into comics. Marvel hasn’t released an official statement about this huge news, but stay tuned.
Most of us grew up reading Stine’s work in Goosebumps, which is why I’m inclined to believe he’s going to take on one of Marvel’s more paranormal characters. The timing of him announcing this oddly coincides with the release of the live-action Doctor Strange movie, but I may be reading too much into it. Ghost Rider would also be a terrific choice with the character playing a prominent role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The possibilities are almost endless, but I don’t see Marvel using him for a B-list character. I could also see him writing Moon Knight just to bring the character back to his former glory. I could be completely off base though. Stine has been writing for years and may not even be writing a horror series. Only time will tell!
Stine’s most recent venture with Goosebumps was the live-action movie starring Jack Black who played Stine in the lead role. Stine played Mr. Black, a teacher in the movie.
