Man of Steel was released back in 2013 and was the start of DC Comics’ film universe, known as the DC Extended Universe. Man of Steel grossed $668 million worldwide and a semi-sequel would come out earlier this year that finally gave moviegoers the superhero battle they been waiting to see in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Ben Affleck as Batman joining Henry Cavill’s Superman. That film itself went on to gross $872 million worldwide.
Superman will be appearing once again with Batman and other famous DC heroes in Justice League next year, but some fans were still glamouring for Superman to have his own movie yet again.
They won’t have to worry no more it seems according to TheWrap, who reports that Warner Bros. is putting a sequel to Man of Steel in active development. Word of this comes from someone close to the project.
Warner Bros. it seems considers Superman a top priority and that getting him right for the audience is of the upmost importance. No doubt that comment comes from the severely mixed feedback both fans and critics have had about Superman’s portrayal and the darker tone in the recent two films.
A Man of Steel sequel was thought to happen soon after the release of the first film, but that soon developed into Dawn of Justice and director of both films, Zack Snyder said that he thought Dawn of Justice in a way was a Man of Steel sequel and that another standalone Superman film wasn’t in development. Once out for press duty for Dawn of Justice, Snyder then said if there was a good script that another solo Superman film would be great. Cavill also expressed his interest in another Superman film himself.
With the DCEU scheduled all the way up to 2020, another adventure for Superman surely could be in the cards, but the person close to the project said that its long away from getting a release date. Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film will most likely be coming out long before the next Superman movie and that doesn’t even have a release date too.
