Life is a fickle thing. One day you’re just walking around the world, minding your own business, and in the next instant you could be fighting for your life. You could find yourself wishing you had just a few more moments – to say goodbye, to kiss your children, or maybe, like one Florida man, partake in some delicious Taco Bell.
This was the case for 35 year old Army Veteran and father, Jake Booth, who had discontinued his antibiotics for a mild case of bronchitis that unexpectedly festered into double pneumonia. While Booth was seeking treatment he suddenly suffered a heart attack and had to be placed into a medically induced coma.
After nearly 50 days in a coma, Booth woke up and through the daze of his condition and despite his difficulty in speaking it was obvious what he wanted most after his experience:
“I want Taco Bell.”
Although it would be more than three weeks before Booth would be cleared to eat his Taco Bell meal, he did finally get his wish in the form of more than half a dozen crunchy tacos.
This is only the beginning for Jake. According to the GoFundMe page (Wake the Jake) run by Booth’s brother Jason;
Even though Jake is AWAKE he’s got a long way to go before he’s out of danger. He needs a lot of physical therapy for everything from his speech, writing his name and even just walking to working on his memory loss and dialysis 3 times a week.
It may be a long road for Jake Booth as he works to fully recover from his ordeal but it’s a wonderful thing that he’s gotten this second chance at life. I personally wish him and his the best in the coming days as he continues to heal and if you’d like to read more or keep up with his inspiring journey, check out Wake The Jake‘s web-page.
It really is the little things that make life beautiful. The people we love and that love us, the meals we share, however simple. We take them for granted in the day to day and maybe that’s something we could all strive to do less. For Jake Booth, it was his Taco Bell and his family. But we all have something to look forward to, something that rouses us each day to face the world anew and sometimes that something is as small as a bag of Taco Bell.
Although, I think I might have asked for Arby’s, that’s just me though. What food do you love so much the cravings could lull you from a coma? Let us know!
