Marvel President Hints At Black Widow MCU Series

written by Ali L May 7, 2016

We all have characters from the comics that we think deserve their own movies. And many are getting solo adventures on the big screen after production companies have seen how much money these features (sometimes monstrosities?) bring in at the box office.

Not too many characters have as devoted and vocal a campaign as the #WeWantWidow movement. All across the world, men and women have been coming together and dressing up as their favorite character in hopes of showing enough support to gain Marvel’s attention. Flash mobs of adoring fans sprung up, all dressed as their favorite version of the famous character, and apparently, after nearly a year, their request just may have been answered.

In a recent interview with Mike Flemming Jr. of Deadline Hollywood, President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige stated:

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years… I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”

He even speculates about the possibility of Scarlett Johansson going on to potentially star in a whole series of movies featuring the seductive super spy. While none of this is in writing, and Marvel currently has a rather full schedule, it gives a renewed hope to Black Widow fans everywhere that there just may be a more prominent place for one of the most iconic female comic characters in an outstanding lineup of amazing characters already.

What do you think of the potential for a Black Widow movie series? Would you rather see her portrayed on the big-screen, or would you rather her have her own TV series which may be able to better portray the complex plotlines of the Marvel multi-verse? What do you think of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow? Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below!

And as a bonus, here’s a skit from last season’s SNL where Johanasson “stars” in a Black Widow rom-com spoof trailer. It’s good stuff!
