For the second time in the last six months, Stan Lee, former Marvel editor-in-chief, finds himself accused of sexual misconduct. This time, there’s a lawsuit to go along with the accusations. According to court documents, a Chicago massage therapist is suing Lee and his assistant, Max Anderson.
Toward the end of last year, several employees of an in-home nursing service accused Stan Lee of inappropriate behavior. According to them, he demanded oral sex, groped them, and would often walk around naked. Lee, via his lawyer, “categorically” denied the accusations and even sent a cease and desist letter to those making the claims. His lawyer also stated, at the time, that no lawsuit had been filed. Instead, he and Mr. Lee had been given demands to pay money in order to keep the accusers quiet. He called it extortion and blackmail.
The Same, but Different for Stan Lee
This time, however, the accuser has actually filed a lawsuit. Equally troubling is that the accusations this time around are very, very similar to those made last year. According to Maria Carballo, the massage therapist and plaintiff, Stan Lee fondled himself during his massage, walked around naked, and grabbed her foot and rubbed it on his genitals.
She is suing for assault, battery, violation of the Illinois Gender Violence Act, emotional distress, and civil conspiracy. She is reportedly seeking $50,000 in damages. Lee has denied these allegations as well and his lawyer called it a “shakedown” of a 95-year-old man.
Stan Lee’s rough few months continue. The comic book legend lost his wife last summer. All of this comes on the heels of strange, conflicting reports about trouble in the Lee household. There have been reports of problems between him and his daughter. There have been whispers of elder abuse. In short, no one knows what’s going on at Stan Lee’s house, but it doesn’t seem like a happy place right now.
What do you think? Is Stan Lee the victim or is he the abuser? Let us know in the comments!
