We talked a bit about Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite before , and now Capcom has given us more. Let’s start with the all important release date. If you game on PC, Xbox One, or the PlayStation 4, you will be able to get your hands on Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite on September 19, 2017. Pre-orders open up today as well, and there are a few different editions to consider. More about those in a bit.
Along with the release date, Capcom also confirmed eight characters entering the fray this time around.
- Rocket Raccoon
- Strider Hiryu
- Chris Redfield
The eight characters above will be joining the previously revealed roster that includes Mega Man X, Ryu, Captain Marvel, and Morrigan. Together they will fight an all new villain called Ultron Sigma. Ultron Sigma is a fusion of Sigma from the Mega Man X franchise, and Ultron from the Marvel universe. He’s also hellbent on infecting all organic life with a cybernetic virus. You can see this menacing construct below.
Telling a Story
For the first time in the Marvel Vs. Capcom series there will be a “cinematic Story Mode.” The mode seems to be taking a page out of the more recent Mortal Kombat or Injustice story modes, which isn’t a bad thing. It’s about time fighting games started taking their story mode more seriously for those who may enjoy playing the games, but aren’t really into the competitive scene. There is even a snazzy new trailer to go along with the announcement which shows Ultron and Sigma fusing using the Infinity Stones as well as the efforts our fighters put forth to stop his dastardly plot.
Which Version to Get?
As is common practice in the gaming world, there will be multiple versions of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite available when the game releases this September. The Standard Edition will be priced, as expected, at $59.99. For thirty bucks more ($89.99) you can get the Deluxe Edition. “What makes it Deluxe?” you ask, well, Capcom has two words for you: Character Pass. The Character Pass acts as a traditional Season Pass except with characters as opposed to robust DLC. The pass will grant players access to six post-launch characters which includes Sigma from the Mega Man X Universe. No other post-launch characters have been confirmed.
Pre-order bonuses are also different dependent on what region you purchase the game in. For North Americans, if you pre-order Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, you’ll receive the Evil Ryu and and Warrior Thor costumes with the Standard Edition. If you paid extra for the Deluxe Edition, you will also receive the Gladiator Hulk and Mega Man Command Mission X costumes. Capcom has said that those in Europe and Australia will have to check with individual retailers as offers may vary.
Those aren’t the only two versions available to purchase however. There is a $200 Collectors Edition that you just have to see to believe.
What you see above is the Deluxe Edition of the game in a SteelBook case, dioramas of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man X and Chun-Li, and finally, a case with six Infinity Stone replicas.
