Disney has been on quite a roll with their live action adaptations of animated classics, such as The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast (the trailer broke the internet) and the retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty story in the way of Maleficent. It seems they’re not stopping any time soon!
They plan on releasing Mary Poppins Returns on December 25th, 2018 staring Emily Blunt (Into The Woods, Edge of Tomorrow) as the jubilant and unorthodox Mary Poppins herself and the film will co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda (appeared on Modern Family and The Odd Life Of Timothy Green) as a street lamplighter by the name of Jack. Rob Marshall who directed Into The Woods and is no stranger to Emily Blunt will be behind the camera for the sequel.
The original Mary Poppins was released a little over 50 years ago in 1964 and starred Julie Andrews who played Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke who played Bert, the chimney sweeper. The story is one of a magical super-nanny who graciously appears to liven the lives of a rigid banker and his family.
One can only imagine what the new installment of the movie will entail, however as long as it’s as upbeat, lively and filled with music and story (which Disney is wonderful for) I can imagine that it will turn out better than expected!
