What happens when you have a drunk princess, a spunky elf, and a demon that kind of looks like a cousin to Mr. Game and Watch? You get Matt Groening’s newest animated show, Disenchantment, coming soon to Netflix. This animated show by The Simpsons, and Futurama creator will star Abbi Jacobson from Broad City, and Eric Andre.
Disenchantment is its name; crude humor will be its game. Because the show will be available to stream on Netflix, you could expect the humor to be border R-rated and likely in line with Futurama. Disenchantment will have a similar animation style to Futurama as it will be animated by Rough Draft Studios.
The official synopsis on Netflix reads:
In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.
Princess Bean will be voiced by Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), Elfo will be voiced by Nat Faxon known for roles in Netflix’s original Friends from College as well as other various voice acting credits, and Luci will be voiced by Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show). Other cast members include Matt Berry (Toast of London, IT Crowd), Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh, The Great British Bake Off) and John DiMaggio best known for the voice of Bender in Futurama.
Expect to find Disenchantment on Netflix August 17, 2018. It is planned for a 10-episode first season. This will be Matt Groening’s first non-Simpsons series since Futurama, which is approaching 20 years since originally airing! I was 10 years old! If I didn’t feel old before, I do now. From promo pictures it looks like it could be a fun show.
