Mayfair Games (Settlers of Catan) Closes for Good

written by Steffie February 16, 2018
After almost 40 years, Mayfair Games, makers of Settlers of Catan closes their doors.

Tabletop gaming fans, grab some tissues because its time for some sad news. Mayfair Games, the company known for creating and developing the board game, Settlers of Catan, is shutting its doors for good after almost 40 years of business.

But the news isn’t all that sad because the company has sold its remaining games catalog to Asmodee North America, a massive games distributor that’s responsible for products from publishers such as Fantasy Flight Games, Days of Wonder, and now Catan Studios.

Mayfair Games released this statement:

As of today, the management team at Mayfair Games, Inc. announces we will wind down game publishing. After 36 years, this was not an easy decision or one we took lightly, but it was necessary. Once we had come to this conclusion, we knew we had to find a good home for our games which is when we reached out to Asmodee.”

Fantasy Flight Games is a publisher that releases content for its games regularly. Games such as a Game of Thrones: The Card Game, some Star Wars tabletop games–such as Star Wars: Legion and Star Wars: The Card Game–and so much more. Days of Wonder are responsible for board games such as Shadows Over Camelot and the ever-expanding Ticket to Ride. Let’s not forget Pandemic, brought to you by Z-Man Games.

Overall I think Asmodee will do fantastic things with Catan and possibly bring it to a whole new level.

Having played a lot of the above games, I would highly suggest looking into purchasing some of these for your next games night, they all cater to families with young children too. The entertainment possibilities are endless.

So, who loves tabletop games? I know I do! Its what family nights are all about. Let us know what your favorite board games are in the comments below.
