Murder, drugs, sex, Melissa McCarthy, and… puppets? You read that right. Melissa McCarthy is starring in the upcoming film The Happytime Murders alongside some very mature puppets.
Melissa McCarthy and NSFW Puppets
While a movie set in a world where humans and puppets co-exist may sound like Sesame Street, according to the tagline, this film is “all Street and no Sesame”. What would you expect from a film set in Los Angeles? When the former stars of an all-puppet children’s television show are murdered, human detective McCarthy has to partner up with a private eye puppet to solve the case.
Check out the trailer and remember: this is not safe for the kiddos and if you’re watching while at work, you might want to turn the sound down and make sure no one else can see your screen!
I watched this trailer three times and laughed equally hard during each viewing. While I have to admit that I am not a big Melissa McCarthy fan, but this one looks like a can’t-miss naughty comedy, even raunchier than Avenue Q. I think this movie may beat out Team America: World Police for best puppet sex scene!
As you can see from the trailer, McCarthy is joined by the funny Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks. The film is directed by Brian Henson, son of the late Jim Henson, who also worked with puppets. Jim Henson’s puppets, however, gave us The Muppet Show and The Muppet Movie. Jim’s puppets were nothing like the ones Brian Henson is giving us and while the young me appreciated the Muppets, the adult me is grateful to Brian for these adult versions.
The Happytime Murders is set to hit theaters August 17th.
