Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the hilarious minds behind such movies as The LEGO Movie, Cloudy With a Chance  of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and 22 Jump Street, brings us the upcoming TV comedy, Son of Zorn. Part animated, part live-action, this new FOX show is slated for the Sunday night lineup this fall.

Son of Zorn

The show is about an animated He-Man-esque character, Zorn who is voiced by Saturday Night Live (SNL) alumni, Jason Sudeikis. After defending his home land of Zephyria, Zorn is returning to Orange County where his ex-wife (Cheryl Hines) and son (Johnny Pemberton) currently reside. Zorn takes a job selling industrial soap dispensers while trying to reconnect with his teenage son and his his ex-wife who is now engaged to marry a psychology professor played by another former SNL star, Tim Meadows.

In an interview wit Entertainment Weeklyexecutive producer Chris miller shared his take on the show’s focus character:

“He tries to be a family man, but he is a barbarian warrior from another land who doesn’t quite fit in. The thing I like about this show is that while the premise is really outrageous and ridiculous, the tone of the show is finding the practical, real, understated minutia of daily life. And the parts of the show that feel the most interesting to me are the [ones that] play it relatively grounded for such a ridiculous concept.”

Co-executive producer, Phil Lord added:

“My favorite scenes are Zorn in the break room at his office, putting cream cheese on a bagel with a sword and talking to weird strangers. Even though he’s a wild character, it’s all just really well-observed, funny, strange details about our life. Because he’s a foreigner, he’s highlighting what is ridiculous about the way we all live.”
