After the successful debut of the first season, Toonami is set to air season two of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. The new season will air on October 7th.
Since the airing of the first season last June, many fans have waited patiently to see how the story unfolds. The first season aired in Japan back in October of 2015, while season two aired in Japan last October. Toonami then aired the English version last June. Iron Blooded Orphans will fill the 12:30am slot currently filled by Tokyo Ghoul. Toonami has quite a history with the Gundam franchise. In 2000, Toonami aired Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Other Gundam properties include Mobile Suit Gundam; The 8th MS Team and Mobile Fighter G Gundam.
While Toonami has a long history, Gundam itself has quite a past. Starting in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam, the franchise totals over 40 different movies and TV shows. On top of the movies and TV shows, the franchise has spawned over 80 video games. While an amazing feat in itself, it is truly amazing for a manga or anime to last that long in this time. A lot of manga and anime don’t typically have a long life nowadays. With hundreds of anime coming out each year, most studios struggle to make money on their shows. Even more studios end up closing down. For an anime like Mobile Suit Gundam to continue to this day really speaks to the popularity of the show. And I’m sure we will see even more of Mobile Suit Gundam in the future.
Sound off, geeks! Will you be watching season two of Iron Blooded Orphans? Let us know in the comments.
