Mr. Terrific To Be First Openly Gay, Black Superhero On TV

This fall, when Arrow returns, it will be getting the first openly gay character of color, who is also a bad ass superhero.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Mr. Terrific!  He is to be played by Echo Kellum.

In DC’s main universe, Michael Holt is a super genius, gold medal winning Olympic athlete who fights crime as Mr. Terrific.  After being visited by the spirit of God’s vengeance, Holt dedicates his life to patrolling the skies of New Earth, using high-tech weapons and gadgets to give him the kind of powers he needs.

Holt’s story has been written as a grieving widower who turns to a life of heroism following the sudden deaths of his older brother and pregnant wife. In  Arrow, Holt will be younger, and gay.

The choice to change his back story and add him into the franchise is a fantastic idea, and I think we (humanity as a whole) need to see more good, strong, LGBT characters on tv. I’m really looking forward to this character, and can’t wait to see how he jives with Stephen Amell (who plays the title character, Arrow).
