Are you cat crazy? Then you’re in the right place! The Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector app has allowed cat lovers world-wide to collect adorable cats since its release in October of 2014. The craze hasn’t ended since, Hit-Point has recently celebrated the apps 19 millionth download.
The game is charming and simple with three basic steps: put out food and toys, wait, and collect rewards. There is a Cat Book that displays any photos you take of the kitties that come to visit. This Cat Book also keeps a record of which cats you have met, and which you still get to meet. The shop sells goodies (toys, beds, etc.) for the cat to play with and different kinds of food. These food options allow you to get cats who leave larger rewards to visit you. With updates every few months to add new cats and goodies, kitty collecting never gets old!
Additionally, Hit-Point, the developers of the famous app, have just announced a Neko Atsume live action movie!
The film will hit theaters in Japan on April 8th of next year. Showings will be available nationwide, and hopefully spread to the US because of the apps great success here. You may be thinking that a movie about kitty collecting seems impossible, but developers have created a back story for the film to follow.
The main character, Sakumota, is an award-winning and best-selling novelist. He is facing a bad bout of writers block, so he decides to move to a quiet new home with a large garden. When he is hopeless he sees a cat in his garden. From here Sakumota takes on the roll of the app-user and attracts the cat with food and toys.
The photos below are a side by side comparison. One is the live action cat and the other is a light orange tabby cat from the app known as Apricot. Could the similarities between the two mean Apricot has come to life? Only time will tell!
Cast and Crew
Atsushi Itou stars in the upcoming film as Sakumota. Michiru is a female protagonist in the film.
