Netflix Unveils Its First Comic Book: Mark Millar’s The Magic Order

written by Ro November 8, 2017

On Tuesday, November 7th, Mark Millar announced the first comic franchise to be created for Netflix as part of its recent acquisition of Millarworld, will be The Magic Order. Mark Millar, President and Chief Creative Officer for Millarworld, expressed his excitement saying, “We wanted to make a splash with our first book for Netflix and this is it.”

The Magic Order is about five families of magicians duty-bound to fight a generations-long battle against an enemy intent on picking them off one at a time. Despite the danger, they’ve sworn to protect the world.

By day they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness…unless the darkness gets them first.

The first volume of The Magic Order will be written by Millar with Marvel heavyweight Olivier Copiel coming on board as artist.

When discussing why this project Millar responded, “I love dark fantasy and there’s an enormous gap in the market for something like this. Netflix hiring Olivier has also made me the happiest guy alive. I’ve been after him for almost ten years so to finally have our names in the same book is an absolute honor.”

This series will run for six issues with the first set for release in the Spring of 2018. Netflix and Millarword intend to make The Magic Order available for purchase in both print and digital formats.

Millarworld is best known for the comic book franchises, Wanted, Kingsman, Empress, Kick-Ass (my personal favorite) and Reborn. Mark Millar is the creator of the iconic Red Son, which is still the best-selling Superman graphic novel of all time.

All you comic fanatics and dark fantasy lovers looking for something new to sink should keep an eye out for this project. It’s got the makings of something badass.
