A new expansion is coming for Final Fantasy 14 and a storm of new features are coming along with it. Stormblood was announced at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival this past Friday in Las Vegas. Director Naoki Yoshida shared some details about the second expansion to the successful reboot.
The teaser trailer shows an intense sparring session taking place high above a mountain top. That mountain is in Ala Mhigo, which is the new setting for this adventure. Several new jobs are coming, in addition to new dungeons, new gear, and a level cap increase from 60 to 70. These features, as well as increased player inventory, seems to have fans pretty excited about this expansion.
The story revolves around the liberation of Ala Mhigo from the hands of Zenos yae Galvus (who from the picture below looks like a Mad Max character). Galvus is one of the main antagonists of the game. Final Fantasy players know that a higher power is probably at play because, it’s a Final Fantasy game.
The new expansion also means the end of PS3 support for Final Fantasy 14. A planned upgrade campaign could allow PS3 players to upgrade to the PS4 version for free, although Yoshida did not elaborate. He did tease that more news could be on the way at upcoming Fan Festivals in Europe and Tokyo.
With this new expansion and the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 15 less than a month away, the Final Fantasy train doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. What are your thoughts about this new expansion?
Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood is due out in Summer 2017.
