Absent from the recent civil war among his Avengers comrades, Thor will be making a return to the big screen in Thor: Ragnarok, but he won’t look at same as when you last saw him.
New photos released of this November’s installment into the Marvel Cinematic Universe show off a very different look and style than we’ve gotten from the previous Thor films. For one thing, Thor isn’t rocking the flowing locks anymore.
Well it turns out it wasn’t that big a loss to Hemsworth who told Entertainment Weekly that, “It was nice not to have to sit in the makeup chair for that hour each morning. It felt like a rebirth for me as the actor but also as the character.”
But wait there is more as we see Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett, and Jeff Goldblum as Valkyrie, Hela, and Grandmaster respectively, as well as old favorites, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.
The look of these photos signal a lighter, more comedic tone from director Taika Waititi of What We Do in The Shadows, but he said himself how its not at all a drastic shift and shouldn’t be mistaken as one by viewers and fans. Saying, “We want people to care what happens and care that the hero succeeds. I think tonally it’s like a slight shift. I don’t feel nervous — I feel good about it.”
In addition to our first look at the superhero movie, we got a brand new understanding of what the plot is via a synopsis.
“In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”
