It’s been many a year since the Power Rangers have seen a video game release, longer still since a good Power Rangers game hit the market. That all changed yesterday at New York Comic-Con when Bandai Namco released the following surprise trailer for the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle.
The game has a distinct 90s aesthetic that leans heavy on the nostalgia, calling back to classics like the Simpson’s arcade game or TMNT: Turtles in Time. There is even offline co-op so you and a buddy can pick your favorite Power Ranger and save the world together.
In the side-scrolling beat ’em up set within the timeline of the first two seasons of the show, the Rangers will have to fight off Rita Repulsa‘s Putty Patrol and stable of giant, city destroying monsters. The action isn’t limited to human sized combatants as Rita will use her wand to make her monsters grow and the Rangers will have to summon their all mighty Zords to fend off the threat.
Rita isn’t the only foe the Power Rangers will face in Mega Battle as the trailer hints at a greater evil lurking in the shadows and pulling the strings. Fans of the series will be all too familiar with who this mysterious villain is.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is set to release as a digital only title in January of 2017. It will be on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Geeks, what’s your favorite Power Rangers game? I remember playing an old fighting game on SNES that was pretty fun at the time.
